I live in Houston and there are many great courses in that area. But when in the Corpus Christi area I always try to play North Shore (2 - 3 times a year). It is a private club so you have to know a member to play. The layout is links style built on slightly rolling country and sand dunes near and along Corpus Christi bay. The views of the bay and the city are great. When the wind blows hard off the bay the course can be brutal. But on a normal day it is quite playable. Now that the drought in South Texas is over, the course has recovered and is in very good condition. The greens roll fast and true. The fairways are generally wide but avoid the rough as it can be really thick. Beautiful 13th hole, par 3, tee off from a bluff across a slough to a green protected by the bay on two sides. You'll often see wade fishermen catching flounder and red fish in the entrance to the slough. Try to avoid beaning them. There follows 3 holes between the beach and the dunes that will challenge your ball control and course management. Unique, interesting, and sometimes challenging links style course in South Texas. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

I played this course as part of a group of 12 from Fair Oaks Ranch(San Antonio area) on the morning of 6/24/08. The course was not overly crowded, but there were a number of other players. I found the course in good condition, in spite of the very dry Summer we are experiencing in South Texas. There was a good mixture of fairly routine holes, and then on the backside you are faced with a series of holes laid out next to Corpus Christi Bay. The first of these holes(#13), is a par 3 facing directly into the bay, and the ever-present wind. The hole plays anywhere from 195 yards from the back to 145(scorecard) yards from the front tees, and club selection presents a real challenge. The next couple of holes play next to the bay and are both senic and fun to play. On the rating of this course I am probably somewhat influenced by the fact I scored a hole-in-one on number 11. We joined as Winter Texans in Jan. and Feb. 2018 and played three to four times a week. Easy to set tee times. We found the course very challenging. However, as we played more often, we got better and played smarter.
The holes on the Bay were especially beautiful and demanding with precise landing areas. Drive it straight--plenty of trouble off the fairway, plenty of traps guarding greens, and plenty of water. Greens putt true and are very fast. Greens are crowned and raised and at this time of year were not very receptive (could roll onto only a few and found it difficult to make the approach shot stick). The grass around the greens requires precise club selection.
The wind was constant (only played twice with winds below 10 mph, dealt with 15-25 mph most days). Built on the curve of Corpus Christi Bay, most holes played into the wind.
Course membership included driving range privileges and use of the workout center. Senior tees and Forward tees are placed in fair positions to score well.
